EIN and FEI refer to the federal number here
You may see “EIN” on the IRS notice and “FEI” while updating a Florida company record. Check the legal entity and notice before assuming those labels mean you need two numbers.
Sunbiz’s LLC annual-report help asks for the federal identification number and says to enter digits without the dash.Sunbiz Keep the IRS assignment notice beside the entity record when entering it.
Also keep the Florida document number distinct. It identifies the state record used for the annual report, while the EIN identifies the federal business tax record. Match the names and formation evidence so you do not attach an owner’s other company number to this entity.
If you cannot find the EIN notice, check the company’s original application file and ask the person who handled it. Do not request a second EIN merely to replace a missing piece of paperwork.
Treat an applied-for entry as something to resolve
The Sunbiz help distinguishes an issued number from “APPLIED FOR” or “NOT APPLICABLE.” It also warns that an annual report cannot repeat an already recorded “APPLIED FOR” entry.Sunbiz Use the current instructions for the entity rather than carrying an unresolved entry forward.
Find the earlier IRS request and confirm what happened to it. Retain the submission record, applicant name and any response. If the number was issued, use the assignment information instead of starting again.
Give the preparer the full state record when asking for help. A cropped view of the number field does not show the entity name, status or prior information that needs to be checked.
An incomplete state update and an unissued EIN are different problems. First identify which one exists, then follow the relevant agency’s instructions. Keep confirmation of the correction with the company documents.
Review the Florida agent and address details
Florida’s annual-report instructions require a physical Florida street address for the registered agent and say the business cannot be its own agent.Florida Confirm the agent arrangement when you review the entity record.
The same instructions distinguish the principal office and mailing address.Florida Decide who receives each kind of mail and how it reaches an owner abroad. Do not copy the agent address into every field without checking its purpose.
When changing the agent, follow the acceptance requirements in the current state instructions. Ask the provider for evidence of the accepted update and keep the new service agreement.
Use accurate business-location facts for the IRS EIN request. A Florida agent address alone does not describe where the company’s work is carried out or establish online-tool eligibility.
The annual report keeps the state record current
Florida explains that the annual report updates or confirms company information and maintains active status. It is not a financial statement.Florida Filing it does not complete the company’s federal income-tax or information returns.
Keep the annual report on a calendar separate from the IRS filing review. Check the current state instructions and deadlines for your entity before submitting. Retain the confirmation and verify that the information posted to the record is correct.
For a foreign owner, add a review of the responsible-party details for the EIN. Use the applicable Form SS-4 route rather than assuming you first need a personal ITIN.IRS
A foreign-owned U.S. disregarded entity can also need related-party reporting through Form 5472 and a pro forma Form 1120.IRS Keep owner funding, withdrawals and company income separate so the reviewer can determine the filings.
